Billie Freeland loves the curriculum and how fun it is for kids. Billie teaches K-5 ML-PBL STEM. This is her third year teaching the ML-PBL curriculum.
“I love so many of the units because they create excitement and engagement in the students. However, if I had to pick one, it would be the 4th Grade Energy Unit. In this unit, students get to build and test water wheels made from orange juice cartons. They then modify the water wheel to make it into a windmill. I love seeing how engaged the kids are working as a team, trying out their ideas, and testing the limits of their machine. Very few of our classes are hands-on anymore. As a kid, I was always building and making something either in my dad's workshop or a sewing project in the house. I believe the ML-PBL curriculum reaches those kids; kids that excel creating, building, and testing. It's what engineering is truly about!”
